For serious hauling and towing, go for the 6.2-liter V8 that makes 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque and can pull up to 12,000 pounds. Chevy Silverado 1500
Powertrain. The Silverado's powertrain options are identical to those of its GMC sibling. The base engine is the turbocharged four-cylinder that makes 310 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque. It comes with an eight-speed automatic transmission and can be configured with either rear-wheel or four-wheel drive. The midrange option is also GM's 5.3-liter V8; it's standard on midrange trims like the LTZ and High Country. For the really hard work, truck owners will want the 6.2-liter V8 that's good for 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque; it can tow up to 12,500 pounds, properly equipped.
Features and Options. The Chevy Silverado has the same options for cab style and bed length combinations as the GMC Sierra: a regular cab with either a 6.5-foot or 8-foot-long bed, the extended cab with the standard 6.5-foot bed, or the crew cab with more spacious rear seating and either the shorter 5.8-foot or standard 6.5-foot bed. Things get a little more complicated with trim levels, of which there are seven different styles. The Silverado 1500 High Country is top of the line for this truck, and has extras like front and rear parking sensors, heated and ventilated leather-upholstered front bucket seats, and a Bose Audio system. It also comes with the Enhanced Driver Alert package, which is an option on all other trims and includes features like lane departure warning and forward collision alert with low-speed emergency braking.
